Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Will birth year registration mean my player won't play with his or her friends or classmates who are born in a different year?

A: New players will be registered and placed on teams according to birth year. For players who have already played with us, our Age Group Directors will work with Coaches to ensure proper placement. Some teams may choose to play up to the age of their older players. Others may need to re-form in cases where that makes most sense. Please communicate with your Coach to find out any information that should be conveyed in your player's registration notes.

Birth Year Realignment Changes (USSF/WYS)

Starting a few years ago, age requirements for league play were restructured in conjunction with changes mandated by the U.S. Soccer Federation and US Youth Soccer. This moved the age chart from the current school year (Aug1-July 31st) to a calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31). Below is the statement released by Washington Youth Soccer. You will also find the new age chart.

Please keep in mind that these changes are nation-wide, not just in Washington.

What does this mean if your team wants to stay together?

Teams will be entered into the correct age bracket based on the oldest player on a team's roster. Teams will not be allowed to have players participate that are too old for the bracket in which they are playing. Players may "play-up," although teams/coaches should anticipate that other teams may have rosters with older and larger players than teams formed with the old school year system. Club administrators will work with coaches to place teams in the appropriate age groups and competitive division.

The Highline Soccer Club Board will be sharing more information on how this affects our soccer programs During our Fall Coaches Meeting and at the Annual General Membership (AGM) meeting.
