2020 Fall HSC (U06-U12) HSA League CANCELED

With great reluctance, Highline Soccer Club (HSC) is canceling our 2020 Fall season for players U06-U12.  Refunds will be issued by crediting back to the credit card used at registration.  With many refunds to process, it could take some time so please be patient with us as we work through the process.

This was a difficult decision with our utmost priority being the health and safety of our players, coaches, volunteers, and their families.  As an all-volunteer program, HSC does not have the resources to ensure the health and safety of our members across multiple teams and venues.

Over the past months we have been monitoring the COVID-19 outlook in King County, anticipating a possible move to Safe Start Phase 3 or a significant loosening of restrictions.  Yet every week that has gone by has made scheduling a full or even partial season less feasible.  This Tuesday, Governor Inslee.  announced a loosening of recreational athletics restrictions (COVID19 Phase 2 and 3 Sporting Activities Guidance) that on the surface appeared to provide an opportunity to play.  However, the announcement came with increased compliance and oversight requirements that were just published today by Washington Youth Soccer (WYS), WYS Gameday Protocols and Safety Plan.  These protocols are incredibly challenging and create a great deal of uncertainty on how HSC can safely and effectively offer a soccer season compliant with the guidelines.

In addition, we currently have NO fields available and no estimated date for permitted use by HSC from our three field providers.

  • City of Burien Parks - all rentals are CANCELED and will be CLOSED THRU 2020 due to city budget cuts, NO FALL USAGE ON Moshier and Chelsea Parks.
  • Highline School District - all rentals are CANCELED and will be CLOSED until further notice, “our potential use is dependent on whether school returns to in-person learning”.
  • City of SeaTac Parks - all rentals are CANCELED and will be CLOSED until further notice, earliest possible opening would be when King County is approved for Phase 3.

With this uncertainty, the lateness of the season, field limitations, as well as the time and volunteer staff needed to implement and oversee these requirements, the Board agreed that providing a Fall season under these conditions is not feasible.

Our sister club West Seattle Soccer Club (WSSC) within Highline Soccer Association (HSA) canceled their Fall season this week.  Along with other recreational soccer clubs throughout King County that have previously canceled their seasons.  HSC held out with the hope that King County would reach Phase 3 reopening allowing soccer training and competition with minimal restrictions.  Unfortunately, this never materialized, and we felt compelled to make this decision with the health and safety of our membership in mind.

As a result, we will process refunds for all registered U06-U12 players and set our sights on preparations for a potential 2021 Spring season.  Thank you for your patience, stay healthy and well.
